Blog # 8: Devils Can Cry

Hello everyone! I hope you are having a good day today, I have two blogs for you today but I will be posting the second blog later tonight. Let's get started on the topic we are going to talk today. I wrote a blog about a game called Devil May Cry 1, a game franchise I am very passionate about. In that blog I left out a piece of detail of what happens between two characters, Dante and Vergil. What even happened between those two? Well that's what I am going to get into today. Dante and Vergil are twin brothers and sons of a legendary dark knight Sparda. The two grew up wanting to become like their father, so they trained extensively with swords. When the young Sparda twins grew up, they were given their own demonic weapons from their father. Dante was given the Rebellion a longsword that Sparda wielded and Vergil was given the Yamato a katana, another weapon Sparda wielded  in battle.

These weapons became the trade mark of Dante and Vergil, both symbolizing their personality. Dante's personality is well in the name of the weapon. The Rebellion, he becomes a loud and rebellious punk kid who cracks jokes anytime he can. Vergil's personality doesn't come from the name of his weapon as far as I know. Instead it's how Vergil uses The Yamato and in general what it can mean with Katana's. Vergil is level headed but can get heated but he is quick, smooth and cold. He fights with honor and pride. Lets get back on track with what happened between Dante and Vergil, at a young age their home was attacked by demons, Dante was saved by his mother and Vergil was left alone to fend for himself. I go into more detail on what happened at their home in the other blog if you'd like to read more about that. 10 years later after the attack on their home, Dante started a business with no name yet and Vergil who is believed to be dead but is secretly gaining more power and seeking a weapon that was placed by his father. Vergil was working with a guy named Arkham and asked Arkham to deliver Dante a message and so Arkham did, when he arrived at Dante's company, he slowly walked towards Dante and told Dante that he knows who he is and that his brother sends an invitation and he should accept it. Arkham quickly flips the desk Dante is sitting at and demons start to swarm the arena. Dante remains unfazed by any of this and essentially plays with his "food" and styles on the demons with his impressive skills that he picked up and with his iconic Ebony and Ivory paired with the iconic sword Rebellion.

Dante: Devil May Cry 3                            Vergil: Devil May Cry 3

Now that all the demons are killed within his shop, Dante leaves to go find his brother and talk to him directly as he has accepted the invitation. Vergil awaits for him at a newly formed tower and that begins the story of Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening. One of my favorite games of all times and is a prequal to the classic Devil May Cry 1. To continue real quick on what happens a bit later within DMC 3, Vergil and Dante meet up finally after 10 years. It isn't a happy family reunion for these sons of Sparda's, in fact they begin to fight each other after making small talk to each other. Vergil and Dante fought each other hard and they were fighting each other so fast that they were creating an air pocket in heavy rain. At the end of the battle Vergil stabs Dante with the Yamato in the gut, as Dante falls to the ground Vergil picks up the Rebellion and appears to be walking away but he quickly turns and impales Dante with his own sword. Now that Dante is presumed dead Vergil begins to make his leave but before he does, the devil inside Dante, the demon he inherited by his father awakens. He rushes Vergil to punch him with all his might but Vergil is too quick and blocks with the Yamato, Dante's fist goes into the Yamato and he stares right at him in pure anger. Vergil makes a remark on how the "devil inside him has awakened as well." Dante throws Vergil and Vergil lands, he goes to attack Dante again but Arkham tells him that they have to leave while the time is right. As they leave Dante is seen, screaming and finally unleashing his Devil Trigger, his demonic side finally comes out after being ignored for years. With the amount of blood he lost, he quickly passes out but regains consciousness. Now Dante has a new goal and that's to stop Vergil's and Arkham's plan. So he makes his way out in the most Dante way possible, by jumping off a tower and running down the walls while fighting demons. That is all I have to say, I apologize that this is a long read but I am very passionate about this game and I love the characters within it. I will see you in the next blog that I am working on but will post later tonight. Thank you for reading! I hope you have enjoyed the blog! I will see you all later and I will end this blog off with an iconic Dante line. Jackpot!
